Joe Tai: Ingrid Black Medium Length Bangs Wig /~2008 – (Dressed)
$75.99
RARE. Limited edition articulated collector wigged doll “Ingrid” designed by Joe Tai. These dolls are made of a somewhat heavier vinyl than play line dolls, similar to early edition Mattel Silkstone. Most have intricate hairstyles and very refined makeup/face-paint. While this doll can wear many of the same clothing items as Barbie or Fashion Royalty, the feet are significantly larger, similar in size to Jakks Pacific Paradise/GIRL Force dolls, and therefore cannot wear shoes designed for most other traditional fashion dolls. This doll has a solid vinyl scalp painted black, and is sold with the wig and clothing shown:
- WIG – Soft, fine, black hair fiber is sewn to a flexible mesh wig cap with an inner sticky layer to help adhere to doll’s head. Wig is from another Joe Tai doll and styled in smooth shoulder-length soft cut with shorter length in front, and bangs.
- DRESS – Black taffeta and tulle fitted strapless cocktail dress features an A-line ruffled skirt and deep-cut sweetheart neckline with back hook and thread loop closures.
- JACKET – Faux fur aqua demi jacket is from a 2010-era Mattel Barbie Fashionista and features a comfortably loose fit to accommodate a variety of fashion dolls.
- JEWELRY – Upscale faux blue topaz jewelry set is by “The Vogue” and will come in a branded box. Necklace has silver backing and round circle connectors to form a drop-vee shape. Necklace has a hook and adjustable plum weight on the other end to ensure the back of the necklace chain lies flat no matter where the hook is placed. Matching drop earrings have thin metal posts that fit dolls with small ear holes like Fashion Royalty.
- SHOES – Black Joe-Tai brand high heels made for the Ingrid doll feature black acrylic/plastic soles with black leatherette insoles, cross toe straps, and ankle straps with tiny silver slip-through buckles on the outer sides.
- STAND – A generic round clear Lucite base with a metal pole saddle support (non-telescoping) is included. This stand is made by Joe Tai for the Ingrid doll.
Other clothing and wigs are shown on this doll, but only the items listed above are included with the doll. Add this rare unique legacy fashion doll to your collection today.

Description
*NOTE 1: Joe Tai was a talented fashion and doll designer first based in Taiwan, who designed intricate clothing ensembles and high-end shoes for his dolls. His creations were prized by collectors. Unfortunately he passed away in November, 2010, which brought an end to the doll and fashion lines he created.
*NOTE 2: Some earlier Joe Tai articulated dolls have “ratchet” joints that move in predetermined increments, while others have smooth movement. The “ratchet” joints were, presumably, an early design feature to ensure the doll held poses without the joints eventually loosening up. This doll has “smooth” arm joint movement.
*NOTE 3: Wigs come in different sizes. A standard or upscale fashion doll wil usually take a #4 (or 4″) wig. (Play-line Barbie with hair removed usually takes a 4.5 wig.) There is no “standard” for wig-making. Some wig caps (the part where the hair is sewn or otherwise adhered) may have a flat cap, or have a stretchy elastic cap. A lot of wigs, even though they may be properly sized for standard fashion dolls, do not have a full wig cap, or have a very small wig cap, and therefore will not fit well on every doll that would take that size wig. To keep wigs in place, put a strip of double-sided tape (or a sticky-side-out loop of regular “Magic” tape) on the top of the doll’s head, and other places as needed, to secure the wig. Once tape is applied, position the wig on the doll’s head, then press down so wig cap adheres to tape. Tape is usually easy to remove without damaging the doll, and tape residue can be rubbed off with fingers or damp cloth without the need for soap or solvents.
*NOTE 4: Shoes made of faux leather (pleather) are extremely delicate and should be handled with care, as the straps are thin and can easily break off if pulled on or forced too hard. Also the tiny buckles are extremely fiddly and difficult to maneuver the straps through while on the doll’s foot. These shoes have been fastened and the straps adjusted so they can be eased over the heel of the doll without unbuckling. Put the doll’s foot through the ankle strap first, angle the strap to maneuver the toes into the toe strap, then gently straighten the shoe on the foot into the correct position. If it is necessary to re-thread the ankle strap through the buckle, needle nose pliers may prove helpful to grip the strap and gently slide it through the buckle opening. Never pull on the heel of the shoe and put opposing force on the shoe, as this may cause the insole to separate from the sole of the shoe. If that happens, E6000 glue (preferable to superglue) can be applied to reattach the sole to the insole – being careful not to get glue on outside surfaces of the shoe.
